Because apparently I'm doing this thing now (interactive fiction parodying the 2021 Treebark Rise and the "hidden" Discord server that nurtured it)

I'm trying to make a mini demo version just to test out mechanics and what is feasible. It'll probably last around seven days (June 1 to 7) with individual dashes for each day and 5/6 NPCs you can invite

On June 1, you're pretty much guaranteed to unlock 2 invitable NPCs that act as a tutorial. One of them will accept, the other will reject. The one who rejects you has no negative consequences because it's a tutorial and because they're chill about shipping. The one who will accept should be as obvious as 2021 Tumblr would allow when everyone was on their eggshells

You can make one (1) post each day, which in this game mostly serves to raise "friendship levels" with NPCs. On June 1, you will be given three choices to post— they each correspond to a different NPC with different interests and will give you a slight boost for the one you chose. Your goal is to gain enough friendship to invite them. These will require effort unlike the tutorial NPCs

The first NPC is one who follows and likes you but is skittish about openly shipping. You can increase friendship by posting things they like (since they will see you on their dash), reblogging their posts, and showing your approval, which helps them to open up.

The second NPC is one you follow, is fine with shipping, but doesn't follow you back. You can increase friendship by reblogging from them with nice tags (to tell them you exist since they won't see your posts on their dash). Or you can be mean and they'll block you and you won't get enough people to win.

The third NPC is one you don't follow and they don't follow you back, but you get the vibes they're a covert shipper and you'll need all the help you can get. This one deals with the paranoia of "is this stranger chill or not?" as you frantically hunt into the depths of their socials

Shoutout to my current NPCs platypus-crown (player character aka PC) kindredwaves judasredemption benbiggitybong gayshulkerbox starfish-wizard and 9-blue-blobfish.

I have added block/follow choices which I am lowkey regretting because every post will be forced to do a "have you blocked this user?" check (not feasible with complicated conditional choices). Then again, if you see a post from someone you blocked, it feels like realistic Tumblr bugginess. And you shouldn't be blocking people for no reason because your whole dash will be empty and you'll lose lmao

Thank you so much dear anon for bringing this to my attention. I have to flag how this fits into the whole Max and Charles PR narrative we're seeing RBR starting to build. Charles has featured or been mentioned or alluded to on RBR social media in the past 24 hours almost as much as Checo himself, the actual RBR second driver. For all intents and purposes, RBR social media are not treating Charles like a rival competitor, rather they seem to be happily reminding us all of Max and Charles's shared history, and complimenting Charles right, left, and centre. There is no reason for RBR to give this PR to a driver of a rival team, there's no such thing as free advertising. So the question remains, why is RBR building a Charles social media campaign? And why are they building this idea of Max&Charles in the heads of their audience?

I was musing about it on mastodon because it's a nuanced issue but it keeps coming up and i really feel like offering bsky as a Tumblr Alternative doesn't make sense, even aside from my own hangups about twitter clones. Tumblr, (bsky, mastodon), discord, personal sites, and newsletters all serve different functions and none of them are expressly Replacements for another imo, it's like trying to replace a screwdriver with a hammer. Offering bsky to me as an art platform backup feels as incongruous as saying "oh hey the marina is closed today but we can take our rowboat to the park instead" lmao

that said like i definitely get it, since cohost failed idk what options there would even be at this point for something like tumblr if it really does go down at some point. everybody's just trying to do their best when our careers (and just!! our art sharing communities!!) are at the mercy of people who don't give a shit so this is less shitting on people eyeing lifeboats and more being frustrated this is a thing on anyone's radar at all rn

A Skyward Sword Headcanon:

Link is so fucking exhausted from chasing down Zelda that during one of Ghirahim's monologues he dozes off. Ghirahim, obviously, is affronted by this. The fucking nerve? Still, what can he expect from a sky child. He snaps his fingers repeatedly, startling Link awake, and resumes his monologue (not before making a quip about the boy not getting his beauty rest)... only for Link to doze off again.

Now Ghirahim is like "Alright, what the hell, I did not spend two hours working on this speech and dance routine for this bitch to sleep through it?"

So what does he do? Does he kill Link, right then and there? No! Attacking someone while they're defenseless is just barbaric behavior and Ghirahim is someone who wants to keep it classy. Also, truthfully, it's just not as fun. Like, why would you silence someone who is already silent? It makes no sense to him.

He settles for sitting down on the ground to wait for the boy to wake up. Yup, that's his grand decision. The rational part of him screams to not be this stupid, as the girl and her servant will no doubt flee far from where they are. But then again, Ghirahim has his spies everywhere; finding them is light work anyways. It's always been catching them that was the hard part.

In the meantime, he attempts to either instigate Fi for being a servant of Hylia or make conversation with her about Skyloft or the Surface to fill up the hours. And while she appears impassive, Fi, like any other spirit, has feelings. What does that mean? She too is bored, so she does entertain the demon some answers to his questions (though they're much more clipped and uninteresting than Ghirahim likes).

Alright, timeskip to when Link finally awakes.

Ghirahim is absolutely jumping with glee; you can see him smiling brightly and clapping his hands. Now that he was up, the child would truly feel the fear that the demon was going to strike into his heart. Their battle would be one for the history books. A boy bested by a sword. Oh, it would be delectable.

You can then imagine his disbelief when Link tells Fi they're going home -- he's hungry after all.

"You can't just leave!" Ghirahim splutters, visibly distraught, "I won't let you!"

He does, but not without nursing his wounded ego. Why bother keeping someone who doesn't appreciate his goddess damned efforts anyways...
